Beverly Johnson was the first black model to grace the cover of Vogue back in 1974. Sadly, not many other women of color can say the same, making her a pioneer in the fashion industry. This fashion icon graced the cover of Glamour Magazine no less than 15 times. We will see her once more in the upcoming November issue of Glamour, where the Dominican beauty Arlenis Sosa will sit down with the supermodel to chat with her about her experiences modeling and how she sees the industry today. One thing is for sure, if it wasn’t for Beverly’s bravery and tenacity there would be no Naomi, Tyra, Iman, Joan or any other black super model we know today.
